Street Art in Bacalar
Bacalar is a very pleasant city to walk around. There are several streets with beautiful street art. The Zócalo main square has several shops and restaurants around. Sometimes there’s also a market with artisans. The city center isn’t very big and there aren’t many places to visit. In 1h or 2h you’ll have done the tour.
TOUR ON THE LAGOON OF 7 COLORS

Isla Pájaros

Isla Pájaros

Boat tour
If there’s one activity not to be missed, it’s an excursion on the 7-color lagoon! You’ll see the blues of this lagoon are so different! We even see the limit between the dark blue meeting the almost transparent light blue. It’s crazy colors!
To best discover this lagoon, take a boat tour that will take you to different places. It will take you to different open Cenotes such as Cenote Negro, Cenote Esmeralda, and Cenote Cocalitos. We can guess the shape of the cenotes via the difference in color with the rest of the lagoon, which is a very dark blue. You also go to the Canal de Los Piratas which has an impressive transparent turquoise blue. That’s wonderful! Just like Isla Pájaros which is turquoise blue! Frankly, all these varieties of blue in one place are impressive to see. It’s incredible! The captain will offer you to swim in each place for about thirty minutes if you wish. A beautiful excursion.
Price of the 3 hours excursion: 500 pesos / person. There may be cheaper in the city, I admit that we took the first agency without comparing too much.

Los Rapidos
Another activity not to be missed in Bacalar is Los Rapidos. It’s actually a current of water that takes you from one place to another, without having to swim. To get there, you can take the collectivo which is located opposite to the ADO bus station, on the other side of the road. It’ll be necessary to specify that you wish to go to Los Rapidos Lagoon Club so that it drops you off at the beginning of the access road after about thirty minutes by car. Then you have a little walk to get to the Club. Yes, Los Rapidos is not really accessible for free. You have to pay an entrance but then you have access to the place, the deckchairs, hammocks and life jackets. The place is quite nice to relax. Take a life jacket and go to the end of the small wooden pontoon to let the current carry you to the club. It’s so nice. The water is so transparent! There are rocks on the right and on the left. You have to avoid stepping on them or touching them to not damage them. For the return, we shared a taxi with people we met there.
Price of entry to Los Rapidos Lagoon Club: 150 pesos (+ 50 pesos for the lockers).

MY 3 TIPS TO VISIT BACALAR
- Ask several agencies to take the boat tour on the lagoon, and compare the prices.
- Go around the streets near the city center, there’s a lot of street art.
- Restaurants aren’t necessarily cheap, it’ll cost you less to cook.
