BRASOV CITY CENTER
& THE BRAN CASTLE

WHAT TO DO? MY JOURNEY
BRAN & THE CASTLE

Bran Castle

Inside the castle

Bran

In Brasov, I took the bus at the bus station, direction Bran Castle. There are buses quite often  and drivers are used to it. They will tell you once they arrive. You can pay the ticket directly to the driver, have cash. Once in Bran, you can not miss the castle. I went straight to the entrance to wait for the opening, and I did well. Many people were already waiting to access the castle. The castle is very beautiful to see from the outside as from the inside. The rooms are not very big. You can find explanations in every room, including the famous legend of Dracula. I went around the castle and the garden in 2 / 3h. Then I went for a walk in the city to discover it, but unfortunately there is not much except souvenir shops. By cons, I could see hikes that looked very nice.

BRASOV CITY CENTER

First Romanian school museum

Brasov

Strada Sforii

A big crush for this city. A unique charm with its squares, colorful houses, a good atmosphere in the streets. There is always something to visit or discover every corner. The Black Church of Brasov (Biserica Neagră) is impressive from the outside but so beautiful from the inside. I did not take pictures because it paid but no regrets to have visited, it is really worth it. One street to do is String Street (Strada Sforii), famous for its narrowness. You can also discover small works of street-art. There are several museums in Brasov that you can visit like the museum of the first Romanian school (Prima școală românească).

Entrance price for the Black Church : lei 10 without pictures and videos / € 2

BRASOV HILL

Behind the hill

View on Brasov

Behind the letters

As you can see in the photos, Brasov has a hill where they installed the letters BRASOV, Hollywood style. It’s quite original to see that in Romania. I climbed up the Tâmpa hill by foot (there is a cable car) to admire the different views. The reward makes you forget the effort. A magnificent view of the city and the valleys behind. The ascent and descent took me about 3 hours.

Bran castle is a bit less impressive than the Peles castle but still a must see. Brasov is a beautiful city to walk around and if you like hiking, you might find some walks in this region.

HOW LONG?
To visit Bran Castle (if you go there at the opening) and the surrounding area, half a day is enough. But for nature lovers and hiking, I think you should get more information as the area is beautiful. To visit Brasov, a good day of visit, a morning in the hill and the afternoon to frolic through the streets and museums.
WHERE TO SLEEP? MY ACCOMMODATION

Hostel in the city center but this hostel has nothing special. Perfect for a hostel but not necessarily to land. Be careful the safes are small.

MY 3 TIPS
  • Go to the castle at the opening: the rooms are narrow and at 11 am coming out of the castle, I could see an endless line of people waiting to visit the castle.
  • Climb up on the hill Tâmpa for the view
  • Stroll in the city center (not necessarily outside the center because they are only residential buildings)
