WHAT TO DO IN GRAND TETON? MY JOURNEY

Grand Teton National Park is included in the “America the Beautiful” pass. Part of the park can be visited by car with access to many viewpoints. Then you have parking lots at the start of several hikes.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VIEWPOINTS ACCESSIBLE BY CAR

Glacier View Turnout

Grand Teton National Park

Glacier View Turnout

Snake River Overlook

The US191 road is a road that offers the most beautiful views of Grand Teton National Park. I won’t list all the viewpoints here, but I will tell you my favorites: Jackson Lake Overlook, Oxbow Bend Turnout, Glacier View Turnout, Albright View Turnout. There are others that you can discover along the way. Do not hesitate to take a map at the entrance of the park for more information. Each viewpoint has a small parking lot. You will always find a place.

HIKES AROUND THE LAKES

Taggart Lake

Jenny lake loop

Taggart Lake

Emma matilda and Two Ocean lakes

Taggart Lake & Bradley Lake Trailhead

Hidden falls

One of my favorite hikes is around Taggart Lake and Bradley Lake. I did this hike early in the morning (before 8am), and I recommend it because there is a beautiful reflection of the mountain on the lake that you will only get in the early morning or maybe at the end of the day. And, as no one was on my hike, I was able to meet a deer for several minutes. The path to the lakes is very pretty. Beautiful views of the mountains throughout the hike, and by the lake! The 5 mile – 8 km hike can be done in 2h30 / 3h, it is simple.
Another hike that I really liked was the Jenny lake loop via the inspiration point and the hidden falls. You have several options available to you to get to the main points. Either you do the loop, or you go back and forth to these points from the main parking lot, or you can do the round trip by boat. I did the lake loop which is 7.6 miles – 12 km, in about 4/5h. It’s a very nice walk. It is crowded up to inspiration point but not on the rest of the lake loop. There are nice views of the mountains and the national park. The waterfall is also very beautiful! I haven’t seen many in this park. The hike is a medium difficulty because you have to climb a little to get to the inspiration point.
If you have some time and the weather is nice, there is a day hike to do that goes around Emma matilda and Two Ocean lakes. It is a 7-hour loop that starts from a hard-to-reach car park. Didn’t get to do it all due to timing and weather, but the hike looks pretty and there is a nice view of Lake Jackson.
OTHER ACTIVITES

Inside the Chapel of the Transfiguration

Chapel of the Transfiguration

Mormon Row Historic District

One of the most iconic sights in the national park is at the Mormon Row Historic District. You will see several farms there with a great view of the mountains behind. It’s just wonderful! If you have the opportunity, I advise you to do a sunrise there.
There is also the Menors ferry which you can visit. Formerly a general supply store, he had a Ferry built there to cross the river. This one is no longer in operation but you can still see the boat and its installation. At this place there is the Chapel of the Transfiguration (still used every Sunday). A very small wooden chapel. Inside, the main opening overlooks the mountains. There are a few buildings in the area to visit such as the Maub Noble Cabin. It is a nice little walk of less than an hour to do.

Grand Teton National Park is one of my favorites in the United States, along with Zion and Yosemite. The peaks of the mountains are really impressive and super beautiful, and even more with the eternal snow on them. There is also a diversity of wild animals that I could only see in this park. It was a very nice discovery.

WHEN TO GO?

I was in Grand Teton around the end of June and the weather was not great. I had a rainy day and the other days were partly cloudy.

HOW LONG?

3 days are enough to discover the national park. There is more hiking and activities to do if you want to stay longer.

MY 3 TIPS TO VISIT GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK
  • Do a sunrise with a view of the snow-capped mountains. The colors are just amazing!
  • Bears are present in the area. If you can, take bear spray with you and learn on what to do in the event of a bear encounter.
  • For known hikes, arrive early because afterwards you will have difficulty parking.
