LOMBARDY’S CAPITAL

WHAT TO DO? MY JOURNEY

I lived 4 months in Milan, I returned there for a weekend to visit what I didn’t, and return to some places I liked.

THE DUOMO AND ITS DISTRICT

Inside of the Cathedral

On the roof at the Duomo of Milan

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

If there is one visit not to be missed it is the Cathedral of Milan (Duomo). This cathedral is so impressive due to its size and breadth. We visited the Cathedral (interior with audio guide, the roof and the museum). The interior is as beautiful as the exterior with a very high ceiling. The rooftop tour gives a view of Milan and we could see the architecture up close (and its statues everywhere). The Duomo of Milan Museum is also interesting and allows you to admire a few parts of the Cathedral. After the visit, we went for a walk in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (Vittorio Emmanuele II). Very touristic but the architecture and the paintings on the buildings are really to be seen. You can also take a look around the stores. A little more that I advise you: stop at the Obicà restaurant located in this district. You have to go up to the top floor of the Rinascente shopping mall and you can taste delicious mozzarella with a view of the Duomo. What more? A good half-day is enough to visit the district and the Cathedral.

Price of the cathedral visit: € 18 online according to the formula you choose

THE MILAN CASTLE AND ITS PARK

Milan’s castle

One of the castle courtyard

One park in Milan

After the Cathedral, you have the Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco) which is also quite impressive and very large. You have a huge museum in different fields (art, sculpture, musical instruments …) to delight a lot of people. You may be waiting a while at the entrance but be patient, it seems like they are doing it on purpose so that there are not too many people inside, and it works! There are some rooms where we were the only ones which is still very pleasant when we visit a museum. We got to see the very interesting exhibit on Leonardo da Vinci. The park behind the castle is quite lively at weekends. Half a day will be enough for you to visit everything.

Castle entry price: € 10

WALK IN DOWNTOWN AND APERITIVO

Simplon’s door

Santa Maria presso San Celso

Inside of one of the churches

We took the time to walk around the city center and get lost a little on the way. The interior of the churches in Italy are really beautiful and worth a look even if from the outside it is not very attractive. You will rarely be disappointed when you step inside. We also took a walk to Montenapoleone which is a chic district of Milan with luxury shops and beautiful windows. Walking around Milan is very pleasant and the districts are different from each other. You can come across beautiful things that come out of nowhere.
If you are going to Milan, I advise you to stay at least one evening to test the concept of aperitivo. Most restaurants in the Via Navigli area offer it. You pay for a drink and you have unlimited buffet, do not arrive too late to eat. We tested the Milanese foundry thanks to the advice of a local and we do not regret. A very good buffet in a very nice setting.
