THE GAMES OF THRONES CITY,
BUT NOT ONLY…

WHAT TO DO? MY JOURNEY
TRAIL AROUND THE ISLAND

Port of Dubrovnik

Another view from the path

As soon as I arrived, I did not go directly to the old town of Dubrovnik as most people do. I wanted to take my time to also discover what was outside the old city. As my accommodation was next to the port, I went to the harbor and then join the trail Ul. Ivana pl. Zajca. This path offers magnificent views on part of Dubrovnik, and also the bridge, ports and various islands. The walk lasted about 3 hours.

SUNSET ON SRD MOUNT

Beautiful sunset

Then, I went to admire the sunset at the top of SRD Mount. There is a cable car to climb to the top, however when I was there, it was closed. The climb offers breathtaking views of Dubrovnik, and lasts about 1 hour. I landed on one of the bends of the ascent to admire the sunset that was very beautiful.

OLD TOWN AND OLD PORT

Small streets in the old town

The next morning, I left the hostel at 7 am to be early at the old town of Dubrovnik, and to not have the tourist groups on my way. And honestly, I advise you to do it because the streets are narrow, and it can quickly become annoying to have people everywhere. I lost myself in the little streets and avenues of this old city. The old town has a lot of charm. A good half-day is enough to visit it. There are many small streets to discover, as well as the old port. The old city is very successful because of the Games of Thrones series and if you’re a fan of it, you’ll be thrilled. You can visit the ramparts of the city. Personally, I did not do them because I had already seen Dubrovnik from the top the day before, from the SRD Mount.

LOVRIJENAC FORT

Lovrijenac Fort

Leaving the old town, I went to see the Lovrijenac fort, which is next door. Climbing towards the entrance, there is a great view of Dubrovnik and the clear water. Even if you do not go to the fort, I advise you to go to the entrance to get this view.

Dubrovnik was my first city in my road trip in Croatia, and I fell in love with this charming city. So many beautiful streets and an unique atmosphere I didn’t expect of.

WHEN TO GO?

Months with a favorable weather to visit Dubrovnik.

HOW LONG?

I think 2 days is enough to visit Dubrovnik unless you go to the islands. In this case, add another day.

WHERE TO SLEEP? MY ACCOMMODATION
Anchi Guesthouse
Obala Ivana Pavla II 23,
20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia
Price : kn90 / €12,10 per night

Hostel website : click here

A hostel a bit far from the center but close to the central bus station. However, the price is quite attractive for the city. The accommodations close to the old town tend to be expensive.

MY 3 TIPS
  • Get up early in order to visit the old town without the tourist groups
  • Get lost in the old town to discover cool corners and small streets
  • Admire the sunset from the SRD Mount, without necessarily going to the top. Stop at a bend where you will find a beautiful view.
